Pet hamster, a recent popular pet animal in Vietnam, has been banned in this Southeast Asia country because of concerns that it may be a potential source of disease . Any sale and possession of the animal are not allowed.
Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture says anyone caught with a hamster will be fined up to 30m dong ($1,900) - almost double the average annual wage in Vietnam. Source: BBC
