Morgan Stanley Wins Domain Name Dispute With A Cat

Cool! Nowdays even a cat can have a domain, but unluckily a Baroness Penelope cat called Meow (actually its owner) did choose an inappropriate one which is deemed as trademark infrigement.

According to a domain name dispute body, Meow's domain name, 'mymorganstanleyplatinum.com', was "confusingly similar" to the bank's trademark.

The National Arbitration Forum (ABF) said Meow maintained that it had registered the domain name so Mr Woods (a human) could use use the site in providing a service.

However, the ABF concluded that: "The respondent maintains that it is a cat, that is, a well-known carnivorous quadruped which has long been domesticated. However, it is equally well-known that the common cat, whose scientific name is Felis domesticus, cannot speak or read or write."

"Thus, a common cat could not have... registered the disputed domain name. Therefore, either respondent is a different species of cat, such as the one that stars in the motion picture “Cat From Outer Space,” or respondent's assertion regarding its being a cat is incorrect."
