Actor Steve Martin married girlfriend Anne Stringfield in a surprise ceremony at his Los Angeles home, July 28.

Former Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey, a friend of Martin's, presided over Saturday's ceremony. Lorne Michaels, creator of the U.S. television comedy show "Saturday Night Live," was Martin's best man. Anne's sister served as maid of honor.

The distinguished guests including actors Tom Hanks, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy and Carl Reiner — were not told that he and Stringfield would wed when they were invited to his home for a "party".

Martin, 61, was previously married to British actress Victoria Tennant, whom he divorced in 1994 after about eight years together. It is learned that he has been dating Anne Stringfield since December, 2002

It was the first marriage for Kristin Davis look-alike Stringfield, 35, a writer and former staffer for The New Yorker magazine.
