Phelps, under the collaboration of teammates Aaron Peirsol, Brendan Hansen and Jason Lezak, won his final and also 8th gold medal at the men's 4 x100m medley relay final at this Olympics, becoming the world's only athlete who can win eight gold medals at a single Olympics. The Americans won in a world-record of 3:29.34 minutes, rewriting the old score of 3:30.68 set four years ago in Athens.
