Boeing 787 Dreamliner Aircraft Rolled Out

boeing 787 dreamlinerToday Boeing unveiled its first fully assembled 787 Dreamliner to an audience of more than 15, 000 who packed into its widebody assembly plant in Everett, near Seattle of Washington State for the plane's extravagantly orchestrated premiere .

The Dreamliner, Boeing's first new model in 13 years, takes advantage of the huge advances made in aviation technology in the past decade, was designed using high-tech plastic composites instead of aluminum and is capable of flying long-haul routes using up to 20 percent less fuel.

Up to 50 percent of the primary structure of the plane -- including the fuselage and wing -- are made of composites such as carbon-fiber, which reduce the weight of the planes.

The first 787 test flight is expected to take place between late August and late September.

The plane is set to enter commercial service next May after Japan's All Nippon Airways receives the first of the 50 Dreamliners it has ordered.

The 787-8, the first of three 787 models Boeing has committed to making, has an average list price of $US162 million ($A189 million), though customers typically negotiate discounts on bulk orders.
