An undaunted man from central China has set off on a two-month long drifting trip down the Yangtze River in a self-made rubber "boat."

However, after drifting only a mere 6 kilometers and just one hour after departure, he was halted by local authorities, reports the Chongqing Economic Times.

Cheng Yanhua, 41, from central China's Hubei province, bid farewell to people on the bank, took up an oar and happily commenced his long-dreamed trip of drifting down the Yangtze River at 8 am on Sunday morning.

The so-called rubber boat was no more than a single tire, 0.9 meters in diameter with a mounted plastic blue basin at its center. The 60-centimeter long oars were made of bamboo. A washboard was placed across the basin as a seat. The slogan "Welcome Olympics and No. 1 Drifting Along Yangtze River Boat" was also scrawled on the tire. Those materials were reportedly purchased with the financial aid of local Chongqing merchants.

Cheng Yanhua started out from Chaotianmen Dock in Chongqing, and planned to drift downriver and reach Shanghai in two months. However, the local Marine Affairs Bureau soon sent out a patrol boat to meet and stop Cheng at Dafosi Yangtze River Bridge at about 9 am.

Wen Xinchun, director of the Marine Affairs Bureau told a reporter from the Chongqing Economic Times that he has informed all bureau staff to keep a further eye out for the "boat" in case Cheng attempts drifting again.
