Former MLB All-Star Jose Offerman Arrested for Bat Assaults

What a bad boy!

The former Major League Baseball All-Star Jose Offerman has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault after hitting the pitcher and catcher with his bat Tuesday night during an independent minor league game in Bridgeport, Conn.

Offerman is free on $10,000 bond and due in court on Aug. 23.

Playing for the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League, Offerman homered in the first inning against Bridgeport starter Matt Beech . Beech hit him with a pitch the next inning and Offerman charged the mound with bat in hand, hitting Beech in the hands and catcher John Nathans in the head.

Nathans suffered a concussion, and Beech, a left-hander, broke the middle finger on his right hand, said team spokesman Nick Razzette. Both were treated and released from a local hospital.

Offerman last played in the majors in 2005 with Philadelphia and the New York Mets. He was an All-Star in 1995 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and 1999 with Boston.
