The entire span of the Interstate 35W Bridge loaded with rush-hour traffics in downtown Minneapolis collapsed about 6:05 p.m. today, sending at least 50 vehicles and passengers into the water below. The early news report from Minneapolis was said to at least six persons killed already. The 1967-built eight-lane Interstate 35 bridge which is a major link between Minneapolis and St. Paul and locates very close to University Of Minnesota (see Minneapolis Map) was being repaired at the time when plunging into the Mississippi River.
