Investing In Education

Investing in education may be the best investment you’ll ever make. Taking the time to get a degree now will likely greatly improve your career chances and wealth potential in the future. It does mean you’ll have to put off having some things you want now, but it truly is worth it.

Education investments, however, are an entirely different animal. Many companies have learned the value of having an educated workforce and have begun forming partnerships with colleges and universities to ensure they’ll have adequately educated employees.

Another advantage education investments have for businesses is that their contributions are tax deductible. They can invest large amounts of money in colleges and technical schools and write it off on their taxes.

Not only do companies who invest in education get well-trained employees and tax breaks, they also create a lot of goodwill in their communities by forming partnerships and offering scholarships at local schools. Many large corporations in particular need this goodwill in the event of some type of negative publicity. Tobacco companies are a good example. While many people view tobacco companies as evil, the communities those companies are in are highly appreciative of the money they give to schools of all types because it helps those communities draw other businesses in because they have a better educated population in general than many other communities have.

Many investments in education are made through private trusts. These are usually set up and managed by a third-party financial institution. Trusts like these are usually perpetual, meaning the terms never change and the money can be counted on from one year to the next until the trust runs out.

To make and education investment, talk with a good investment advisor. He or she will be able to tell you about education investment opportunities for either your company or you as an individual. Any investment in education is always appreciated and can mean the most to those who have the least.
