A typical video shows the male members of a wedding party chasing each other around a car park, throwing punches and launching ambitious kung-fu kicks.

Not to be outdone, a middle-aged woman lands a couple of deft blows with her handbag, while her pretty young counterpart lashes out at three fighting men with a stilettoed heel before being dumped to the ground.

This is a Russia where fat and ineffectual policemen shake down passers-by for bribes, get drunk and then fall asleep under park benches; where vehicles virtually disappear into the mud on the country's notoriously poor "highways".
