John McWethy, a retired ABC News' chief national security correspondent, died Wednesday after a skiing accident at the Keystone resort in Colorado. He was 61.
According to Summit County Coroner Joanne L. Richardson, McWethy was witnessed skiing fast on an intermediate trail when he missed a turn and slid chest-first into a tree shortly after 10 am. He was rushed to at Summit Medical Center, but cound't survive the crash-inflicted blunt force chest injuries.
John McWethy, sometimes mispronounced as John Mcquethy, was at the Pentagon when American Airlines Flight 77 hijacked by terrorists including Hani Hanjour crashed into the building Sept. 11, 2001. Link
