BOSTON, Massachusetts (CNN) -- The British man whose American wife and baby were found shot to death last month in Massachusetts has been arrested in England and charged with murder, officials said Thursday.

Briton Neil Entwistle leaves his parent's home in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, on January 31.

Neil Entwistle was arrested about noon (7 a.m. ET) and charged with two counts of murder, one count of illegal possession of a firearm and one count of illegal possession of ammunition, said Melissa Sherman of the Middlesex district attorney's office.

The district attorney will hold a news conference near Boston at 10 a.m., she said.

Entwistle has gone voluntarily to the U.S. Embassy in London to talk to officials about the deaths, British police said.

The 27-year-old grew up in Nottinghamshire, a central English county, and is believed to have left the United States before the bodies of his wife, Rachel, and daughter, Lillian, were found.

Entwistle's car was found at Logan International Airport near Boston and records show he bought an airline ticket to London 48 hours before the bodies of his wife and 9-month-old child were found.

Autopsy results showed the mother died of a gunshot wound to the head and the baby died of a gunshot to the stomach. The bodies were found under a pile of blankets in a bed in their home in Hopkinton about 48 kilometers (30 miles) west of Boston.

Entwistle and his family had lived in the United States for four to five months and began renting their home on January 12.
