Just encountered such a piece of news published on IOL, a wellknown South African publisher, it is sure to attract a lot of readers' curiosities.
Singapore's self-styled sex guru said Tuesday he was deploying a team of women - riding scooters in short dresses and boots - to talk to the city-state's residents about their sexual concerns in his latest bid to understand what goes on in the Singaporean bedroom.
Sexual activity in the wealthy island-republic of 4,2 million has in recent years ranked among the lowest in worldwide Internet surveys by condom maker Durex, but Dr Wei Siang Yu, better known here as "Dr Love," believes he can garner more accurate information off-line.
"Nobody really understands what is going on," Wei said, adding that he particularly wanted to reach less Internet-savvy older Singaporeans. "Do we know what is the quality of sex among old people? We all presume, but it's about time we knew. We've got to talk to them."
The flamboyant doctor said his team of four female "sexual health investigators," dressed in neon pink and orange short dresses, gloves and boots, will be dispatched at shopping malls, nightspots, neighbourhood coffee shops, among other places, to survey 5 000 people in a year.
Questions in the survey include: "If you have a choice of different environments like bathroom, bedroom, garden, sofa in living room, pool, balcony, kitchen, to have sex, where would you choose?"
"I want a more well-represented portfolio of Singapore's sexuality at this stage and it is important for us to establish a face-to-face encounter with it," he said.
Wei said Singaporeans, who usually don't discuss sex at the dinner table, would participate in the surveys candidly because he has received warm responses on his late-night sex-advice television program, "Love Airways."
