Shanghai Opens Soul Supermarket for the Needy

    Shanghai Soul Supermarket
Can you imagine? Behind the label of a product there is actually nothing but a content person buying an empty bottle.

This is because they are buying something for their soul, not their body.

FLOWmarket, or "soul supermarket", opened in Shanghai last Thursday. Its intangible commodities, such as "1/4L of Unconditional Love" and "200ml of Clean Air", packed in aesthetically designed empty containers with humorous and thought-provoking labels, are attracting many consumers.

43 different kinds of commodities are available in the store, including "No Junk Mail" and "Renewable Energy". Some were specially engineered for the Chinese market, such as "Serve the People". Prices range from 10 to 100 yuan, or around $1.2 to 12 US dollars.

The first consumers came just five minutes after the store opened. One female, white-collar worker bought two bottles of "Pause" and one bottle of "8-Hours Sleep", costing 60 yuan, or about $7.5 US dollars.

Danish artist Mads Hagstrom, the designer of the commodities, said his creations aim to inspire consumers to think, live and consume more holistically.
