Experts at LifeGem UK a company that specializes in creating diamonds using extracted carbon from human or pet remains has done something unrepentantly--they produced a sparkling blue diamond
using tiny amounts of carbon extracted from 10 strands of the brown hair of great composer Ludwig van Beethoven
, which came from a collection of famous hair collected at the University Archives in Connecticut, USA. It is the first time a celebrity or historical figure has been turned into a diamond. By being auctioned on eBay , the precious 0.56 carat diamond is expected to sell for £500,000 or US$1,000,000 that will be channeled to the various children's charities.
Update: Aside from the one above, there will be two more Beethoven hair diamonds, but they will not be sold or auctioned elsewhere.
The second diamond belongs to John Reznikoff, provider of the Beethoven hair sample, and the final diamond will be kept by LifeGem to start the LifeGem chain of fame.
