Yu Nakajima, 16, Wins Rubik's Cube World Championship

    Yu Nakajima, 16, of Japan won the top prize at 2007 Rubik's Cube World Championship on Sunday October 7 in Budapest, Hungary. Yu Nakajima won the main event for arranging the six different colors of the six-sided classic 3x3 cube. The 3x3 cube has six sides of a different color with nine tiles on each side.

    Yu Nakajima solved the puzzle five times in an average of 12.46 seconds. He earned the top award of €5,000 (US$7,000), from total prize money of €20,000 distributed during the three-day event.

    The current world record for solving the 3x3 cube is 9.86 seconds, set by Thibaut Jacquinot of France at the Spanish Open this May.

    The Rubik's Cube game was invented by Hungarian Erno Rubik in 1974 and the competition began since1982.
