Yang Huiyan
(杨惠妍), a 26-year-old daughter of a former bricklayer, estimated at $16.2 billion (£8 billion) by Forbes magazine, has become the richest person in China and the wealthiest woman in Asia.
The fortune of Yang Huiyan is based on shares in Country Garden Holdings or called Biguiyuan, a real estate developer founded by her father Yang Guoqiang and listed on Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Yang Huiyan holds its 9.52 billion shares due to a restructuring of Biguiyuan before its Initial Public Offerings this April.
Ms Yang graduated from Ohio University Of U.S.A., married in 2004 to a Chinese government official who was said to be a graduate of prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing. Yang Huiyan's net worth was more than seven times that of last year’s richest Chinese, Huang Guangyu (黄光裕), an electrical appliance retailer who runs Gome stores nationwide and in Hong Kong, and many times than Cheung Yan/Zhang Yin, a wastepaper magnet and the most richest woman in China in 2006.
