Vast Crabs Die On the beach of Olympics Host City Qingdao

crabs died in QingdaoNumerous dead crabs have appeared on the sands of a beach resort in Qingdao, a coastal city in east China's Shandong province.

Local residents suspect the deaths are the result of polluted water from a nearby sewage outfall which has flowed for the past week, the Peninsula Metropolitan News reported.

Abundant crabs, sea weed, star fish and clams have made the Shilaoren Beach Resort nationally famous.

Ironically, the dead crabs have become a tourist attraction, with visitors and locals collecting the creatures which have begun to emit foul odours.

Officials say the true cause of the deaths remains under investigation.

As the host for the 29th Olympic sailing events, Qingdao (where you can have a unique experience of drink bagged Tsingdao beer) has begun making overall plans in order to improve the ecological environment, highlight “Green Olympics”, “High-tech Olympics” and “Humanistic Olympics”, and build the city into a green Olympic metropolis with the best sailing facilities in Asia.

Hope the crab death incident will not bring the negative effects to Qingdao.
